The Cat Torture Crisis

Thousands of defenseless cats and kittens are suffering in the absence of animal cruelty laws in China, where videos of brutal cat torture make their rounds online. This content is spreading rapidly, with hundreds of people from outside of China participating in creating and distributing this violent content.

  • Members of this network actively recruit young people to join, encouraging them to participate in cat torture and other crimes.
  • Since at least 2023, an organized criminal network run by a 28-year old man living in Tokyo has livestreamed the torture of thousands of cats for “entertainment”.
  • This cat torture content is active on mainstream social media platforms. Similar acts of abuse are being committed by teenagers and others in Europe, the US, and all around the world.
